Terms of use
Last updated 6 October 2026
Trailhuts helps you find multi-day hut-to-hut trails in Europe and plan where to sleep along the way. By using www.trailhuts.com you agree to these terms. They are written to be read, not to scare; if something is unclear, ask us.
1. Who we are
- Trailhuts, operated by Jurgen de Vries, a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) registered in the Netherlands
- Email: hello@trailhuts.com
2. What Trailhuts is, and is not
Trailhuts is a planning tool. We collect trails, stages and the huts, refuges, guesthouses and campsites along them, and let you save trails, build an itinerary and share it. We are not a booking platform, a travel agency or a tour operator: you book directly with each accommodation, on their terms, and any contract is between you and them.
Information about trails and accommodations comes from official trail organisations, OpenStreetMap, Google and the hosts themselves, and is checked and corrected by hand where we can. Mountains, weather, opening months, prices and phone numbers change. Always verify with the accommodation and the official trail source before you set off, and carry your own maps and safety equipment. Hiking is at your own risk; Trailhuts is not liable for injury, loss or costs resulting from decisions you make based on the site, except where Dutch law does not allow liability to be excluded.
3. Your account
- You need an account to save trails, build itineraries and save accommodations. One account per person; keep your login private.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account and for the information you add to it.
- You can delete your account at any time by writing to hello@trailhuts.com; we remove your personal data as described in the privacy policy.
- We may suspend or close accounts that abuse the service, scrape it, or harm other users or hosts.
4. Our database and content
The Trailhuts database, the selection and arrangement of trails, stages, accommodations and their links to each other, the texts, guides, photos we took, and the software behind the site are protected by copyright and by the European database right (Databankenwet). Substantial investment went into obtaining, checking and presenting this data.
You may:
- use the site for your own, non-commercial trip planning, and share links and your own itineraries with the people you walk with;
- quote short passages with a link back to the page.
You may not, without our written permission:
- extract, scrape, crawl or copy a substantial part of the database, or repeatedly extract smaller parts, by any means, automated or manual;
- reuse our data, texts or stage-to-accommodation links in another website, app, dataset, model or publication;
- use the site to train or evaluate machine-learning models;
- frame, mirror or resell the site or any part of it.
Map tiles are © Mapbox and © OpenStreetMap contributors under their own licences. Where accommodation data derives from OpenStreetMap it remains subject to the ODbL; where it comes from Google it remains subject to Google's terms. Photos of accommodations belong to their hosts or the photographers credited.
5. Hosts and contributors
- Hosts who claim an accommodation confirm that they are entitled to represent it. Information you add must be accurate and may be edited by us for consistency.
- By submitting text, photos, GPX tracks, corrections or guide material you give Trailhuts a worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, edit and distribute it on the site and in our communications. You keep your own rights and confirm you are allowed to share it.
- Don't upload content you do not own, that is misleading, or that infringes someone else's rights. We remove it when we learn of it.
6. Trailnotes and email
Trailnotes is our newsletter. You get it only if you signed up, and every edition has an unsubscribe link. Account emails (login links, booking requests you send, changes to a hut you host) are part of the service and are sent as long as you have an account.
7. Availability and changes
Trailhuts is a young, independently run service. We do our best to keep it online and correct, but offer it as is, without guarantees of availability. We may change, pause or discontinue features, and may update these terms; the date at the top tells you when. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
8. Law and disputes
Dutch law applies. Consumers in the EU keep the protection of the mandatory law of their own country. Talk to us first at hello@trailhuts.com; if we cannot solve it together, disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, or, for consumers, the court that is competent under EU rules.
