It's a huge refugio with a mix of private rooms and dorm-type rooms. We lucked out and secured a private room, and had the best sleep on our second night on the TMB. Dinner was sufficient - rice, squash, sausage and panna cota. Breakfast was the same as every other refugio - cereal, processed meat, cheese and bread. We would stay here again.

A memorable stay on the TMB. The location is great and I loved the large communal dining area. They catered for vegetarian with a decent option. The vibe was convivial and the staff were very friendly and eager to assist. My only negative was our room was very cold, even in July, but thankfully we had thermals so no issue. No phone signal but you’re in the mountains hiking so who cares. Enjoy the solitude.

Arrived here after a long day of hiking on Tour du Mont Blanc from Les Contamines to Les Chapieux. Took a taxi from Les Chapieux to Refuge des Mottets else I would have reached super late. Firstly, communicating over emails was very efficient and Isabelle was very prompt in answering queries. The compound of the Refuge is huge. Separate buildings for each of these: dining hall, dorms, toilet, private rooms. So it is a busy place to say the least, and the staff run the place pretty well and were friendly. Dinner is lively with chatter in the hall. Food was delicious and my 2 year old daughter ate merrily. They had this vegetable soup that was absolutely delicious. Followed by sausages with rice. The sausages were so tender. Dessert was great too. There was some music played by the hosts using some instrument/machine I was unfamiliar with, but it added to the vibe of the place. One minor point was the walls of the private rooms were thin. Sounds from the corridor were ok, but the room will get quite cold based on my relative experience with other mountain refugees I have stayed. Not a major issue, blankets were provided, just need to have sufficiently warm clothing at night. Another was that the shower cubicle area was quite dark, and the water pressure was not very strong. But to be practical, simply having an ensuite hot shower facility is a huge luxury for a mountain refuge, so this will not be a showstopper for anyone
