Canillas de Albaida, Spain

It wasn't our first stay in a holiday home in the mountains around Torrox and Competa, so we have a good basis for comparison. The access road to the house is very good for this area, but steep. The approach from Algarrobo is winding and the bends are tight, so caution is advised. Check-in: The caretaker only arrived after we had asked him to hand over the keys, which had been arranged beforehand. The introduction to the house was brief but precise, and any questions were answered perfectly. At first glance, the house appears clean, but the area under the beds hadn't been cleaned. Ants accompanied us throughout our stay (only in the kitchen). We didn't complain because I wanted to avoid using chemicals during our stay, so keeping everything clean and closed meant they mostly left us alone. This isn't unusual for Spain. The furnishings are simple but functional. The kitchen utensils are poorly designed; for example, there were no salad servers or stirring spoons. The pot was nicely coated, but only metal, and the spatula suffered considerably as a result. The patio furniture could be more comfortable, and a few lounge chairs on the patio would be nice. The outdoor furniture could be replaced. All rooms are equipped with very good air conditioning, and the beds were very comfortable for our taste. The pool surround needs renovation and poses a risk of injury; there is no handrail on the entry steps. The garden is well-laid out but unfortunately in poor condition due to the drought. The house is in a quiet and very beautiful location. It is not very private due to the neighboring properties, and even though a road runs directly past the house, there is no noise disturbance. The property is fenced or protected by a wall, and all windows are barred. Only in the evenings and on weekends can there be noise from motorcycles and cars in the valley. There was also noise from music events, but this is a problem for the local community (Mannheim is quieter). The pictures on the website are not up-to-date.
