The Royal Castle

Booked a table to try the significantly refurbished Royal Castle. The refurb hasn't ripped the guts out of the old building thankfully. Ate in the upstairs restaurant which has been sympathetically and tastefully decorated. Menu is on the small side but better now for vegetarians than when it reopened. Food and service were both excellent and faultless. 2 courses, shared dessert, bottle of wine for around £105, including my voluntary tip seems fair value to me. Definitely going back. 👍

Stayed 23/24 Feb 2026 What a lovely hotel to stay in. Obviously an old building but has been looked after very well. The room we had was so comfortable, clean and great value for money. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food and service was great. All the staff in the hotel were so friendly and professional. The only downside was we couldn't stay longer. If we head for Dartmouth again we will certainly book again. Thank you.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the beautiful Royal Castle Hotel, celebrating our wedding anniversary and my birthday. We couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome from the fabulous Lena and the team, who made the entire stay so special. The hotel has recently been modified and it is completely wonderful - cosy and comfortable - a really classy boutique hotel. We had a fabulous room (3) overlooking the harbour with a bath to wallow in - just perfect 🤩 We had breakfast for the 3 mornings - great choice and quality served by the very happy and efficient Rebecca and we ate both nights in the restaurant too. The evening food was just delicious and the Mushroom, spinach and truffle suet pudding was one of the best vegetarian dishes I have ever had - sincere compliments to the chef - and many thanks to the lovely Leah who served us on our anniversary, and to Joy too. A big thanks again to Lena and the team who couldn’t do enough for us to make our weekend so memorable - we will be recommending you to all our friends and we will be back! 🙏
