Casa do Cruceiro

Tucked away in Raices, a 10min drive from downtown Santiago de Compostela and right in the middle of the Camino de Santiago, is this quaint jewel of a “rural hotel”. The five stars are well deserved, but mind that they are five stars for the type of accommodation that is offered here. Simple, clean, unpretentious. Do not expect a luxury hotel. But do expect a great value accommodation with a sense of community. The vast majority of guests are travelers of the Camino and there are communal diners where experiences from the road are shared. The owner, Javier, is a seasoned hotelier with insightful recommendations, do ask him about food. He was kind enough to point me to authentic, hidden jewels both close to the village and in Santiago de Compostela that went beyond my already exhausted list of places found in prestigious lists, for a fraction of the price. Would stay here again.

Highly recommended, right off the Camino. The property is great, with a nice pool and deck to relax after a day of walking. Rooms were comfortable and staff was very friendly. There was a dinner menu you could opt-in for - it was delicious and probably our best dinner on the Camino!

Avoid at all costs We arrived as part of Camino to find our rooms were cancelled and given other party. Had to take a taxi to another hotel. Awful.
