Rooms were very basic. Window did not open and wasn't shutting fully and it was very windy outside which cooled down the room and the radiator wasn't working. There were spiders in the bedroom, the bathroom and in the halls. Breakfast was made to order, but you could only choose from 7 different things. The quality of the breakfast was mediocre and the "avocado toast" especially was a joke. Location directly by the sea was nice though. We only stayed one night

The shower wouldn’t drain at all and we asked for assistance at the front desk (phones in the room to call down didn’t work) and they said they couldn’t help. Mind you, the hotel barely had any guests and they could’ve easily moved us rooms but didn’t. Don’t stay here since the only way to clean yourself is by using the bathroom sink

Some hotels in an area with limited options get lazy from the lack of competition but that’s not the case here. Waterville is a pretty remote area with relatively few hotel options and Butler Arms is probably the nicest. It has the look and feel of a classic seaside hotel in the British Isles (using that in a geographic sense not a political one) with lots of dark wood, sitting rooms, a billiard room, and bar. The rooms are modern and it has an elevator. Our rate included breakfast, which was very good (traditional Irish choices). We are one dinner and were pleased. The town itself seems a bit depressed, there were several empty storefronts however there is a supermarket and pharmacy so no trouble provisioning necessities. If you’re doing a road trip in the southwest part of the country this is a good place to stay for a day or two.
