Hotel Cistern

The front desk staff have no personality. they don't even acknowledge customers who come into the hotel. They have poor customer service, minimal to no eye contact, and no attempt to assist customers. We were placed at the very bottom of the building- we asked if there was any elevator, or if someone could assist us with our luggage- responses were both no. We had to drag our heavy luggages down several flights of stairs to get to our room. The room especially the bathroom has a musty smell. The stairs have carpet which was already dark with dirt. Location was great, it was in the center of San Gimignano. Breakfast was pretty good, and the staff at the breakfast place was great. The view from the breakfast room was awesome.

I loved my stay at La Cisterna! The location was perfect, right in the heart of San Gimignano, and everything was in walking distance. Staying in the town for a night gave me a chance to explore the city before and after the tour buses came. The staff was very friendly and helpful with making dinner recommendations and helping me place a few phone calls. Rooms were cozy and comfortable (although a little chilly! Heat wasn't turned on for the season yet, but I stayed warm enough in bed.)

To stay and move about in an ex mediaeval city requires a lot of walking. It's rightfully so, as a lot of tourists frequents here and the streets are narrow. Hotel Cistern situated right in the middle and at the highest point of the city. It's location is central to all directions for us to explore the beautiful city of San Gimignano. Thank you Laura for being helpful as you explained in detail to our questions especially about Teatro del Silenzio for Andrea Bocelli concert. We love you and will always have fond memories of our stay.
