Wow wow wow! What a place! 16th Century Inn, perfect location in Coniston. Dog friendly and great selection of beers. They’re a CAMRA Good Beer Guide Pub (held multiple years). The walls are covered in information on Donald Campbell, and the architecture inside is gorgeous. Didn’t get to try the food - but the menu looked great. We had a Coniston Brewery Beer which was very very nice. The barman was friendly and informative.

I love this pub. The staff are so friendly. The food is delicious, tonight we had Steak Pie and Fish Pie, both were excellent. Just what we needed after a chilly days exertions. Warming and filling. The pub is warm, homely and traditional, and a well kept secret because its a 1 minute walk from the main tourist area. The views from the garden are spectacular. This pub is a must do, but shhhh dont tell everyone !

Called in for late lunch after a long walk! Only one member of staff serving, so there was quite a wait, to order food and get drinks. We ordered 2 of the Lancashire hot pots, which came under the banner of Hearty lunches! The bar man asked me if I was ordering it as a starter, priced at £20 each,I was most definitely ordering as a main course as it stated on the menu as HEARTY (Definition of Hearty, specially relating to food is large amounts). I also asked him if I would need to order side dishes as I was quite hungry, but he said I wouldn't need to as they were good sized portions. The menu said it comes with sourdough bread with cumbrian butter. We never got the butter despite going back to the bar to tell him that there was no butter. Onto the portion size, I would say it was closer to a starter than a Hearty lunch and I'm five foot four and ten stone wet through! I did go back to the bar to tell him my thoughts and he said that I apologise for the size of your appetite and to be fair,he did knock 20% off my second pint(cartwheels for that gesture) on the whole,very disappointing, probably wouldn't be returning.
