Very disappointed. We walked through the village, which had no sidewalks and was unsafe for pedestrians, to reach the village center. There was a lot of car and truck traffic. In the center of St. Jean Pieds de Port, the street is entirely cobblestone and very steep. There are very few souvenir shops, restaurants, or bakeries. There are bed and breakfasts or rooms in private homes for people walking the Camino de Santiago. To get to the citadel, I was wearing sneakers, and you feel every cobblestone with thick soles. It's very difficult with a stroller or walking stick; it's not at all accessible for people with reduced mobility. Visited on a weekday in April.

I recommend the little train for visiting the city, its fortifications, and its heights. Special mention to the driver who is very friendly.

A very pleasant visit, a lovely farmers' market, numerous shops. A visit to the fortress is a must; it's up to you to discover this town or not! 😁🤪
