If you and three friends decide to embark on a transpyrenees bike ride with zero training or preparation, this is the best place to stay. We rode up sad, tired, and victorious at 10pm. The host welcomed us with unmatched hospitality. He cooked us a warm meal, provided comfortable beds, and put up with my lousy French. The views are great. The hostel is simple. I highly recommend

While hiking the GR10, I had the pleasure of discovering a truly special place just 2km easy walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, directly on the GR10 trail, in the peaceful village of Çaro. This gîte d’étape is an absolute hidden gem — a beautiful, spacious house dating back to the 1400s, lovingly maintained and full of authentic charm. The house itself is spotless and steeped in history, offering both comfort and character. Patrick, the host, is warm and welcoming. If you're interested, he's happy to share stories about the house and the region — his passion and hospitality really make the experience memorable. The homemade dinner and breakfast were delicious. After a long day of walking, it was the perfect place to rest and recharge in calm, natural surroundings. If you're looking for something more authentic than the often busy Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, this place is absolutely worth staying at.

Very nice, no nonsense stay. We arrived at 10PM after biking all day. We thought dinner was a forgone conclusion, but our host whipped up one of the best meals I’ve ever had, with the scraps from his fridge; gotta love the French. To top it off, he subtracted the cost from the price of the stay of our friend who didn’t make it. This ain’t no five star hotel - you can only shower for two minutes before the hot water goes cold, and the bed has no sheets. Yet, it’s a cheap hostel, in a beautiful place, with nice people.
