We had a FANTASTIC stay at Stones and Stars – every little detail has been thought of. The beds were super comfortable, and the whole site has such a tranquil, relaxing feel. Spriggy’s food van was absolutely brilliant, and both Joe and Spriggy made us feel so welcome. On Joe’s recommendation we chartered a sailing boat and had the best day out on the water, swimming off the boat in Plymouth Sound. Evenings were spent around the fire pit, BBQing and soaking up the peaceful surroundings. Couldn’t recommend it more!

I have to be honest camping is not in my top 10 list of holidays ideas. Apart from the odd luxury tented camp in Africa I’m much more of a posh hotel kind of person. Well, Stones and Stars has completely changed my mind. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Joe and his team to the moment we packed up to leave we loved it. Imagine camping without all the rubbish bits that we all pretend to enjoy but secretly hate. Gone are the days off dirty kitchens, mouldy showers, and sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress wishing, not so secretly, that you had booked a hotel. Everything at the site is brand new and sparkly clean. The kitchens, showers and beautifully appointed tents are spotless. Stones and stars have found the magic formula, distilling camping down to just the fun bits. You know you are onto a winner when the kids are still asleep at 9am then eagerly run off to collect the firewood, play the longest game of hide and seek in Devon’s history (safe in the confines of the quarry) and then after a long day of outdoor fun even offer to wash up the bbq pans in the outdoor kitchen! This is camping but not as you know it with comfy blankets, throws on the beds, great pillows all set in a idyllic location. The kids loved it. From helping with the bbq to disappearing for hours exploring the quite beautiful quarry. From campfire dinners to falling asleep to the sound of the local tawny owls reminding us we’re not in a five star hotel but sleeping under canvas. There have even been sightings of deer roaming the camp. Surrounded by beautiful walks, good pubs and amazing beaches but only 15 minutes from Plymouth train station stones and stars is a little slice of Devon heaven. If, like me you would usually prefer a nice hotel but know the kids desperately want to go camping this is the place for you. A long weekend of fun, outdoor activities and no iPads. We will be back and if the kids are too busy I’ll happily come on my own and do some deer spotting.

We had a brilliant stay in the Dynamite cabin at Stones & Stars. The site is set in a really unusual old quarry, which gives it a unique character and makes it feel like a hidden escape. Surrounded by nature and away from the hustle and bustle, it’s the perfect place to switch off and relax. One thing that really stood out was the cleanliness. The cabin was spotless when we arrived, the sheets were fresh and crisp, and everything was maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Everything is really characterful yet done well and to a high standard. A special mention to Spriggy and Joe, who were absolutely fantastic throughout our stay. They were so friendly, welcoming and helpful, and really helped make the experience feel personal and relaxed. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and you can tell they genuinely care about the site and about making sure guests have a great time. We really enjoyed the breakfasts from the food truck in the morning as well as the pizzas around the fire by evening. If you’re looking for a unique glamping getaway near Plymouth with beautiful surroundings, top-notch cleanliness and lovely hosts, we’d definitely recommend Stones & Stars.
