Charming Art Noveau hotel at the top of the hill in Engelberg. It has charming old world vibe, like from James Bond film, together with outstanding gin bar and impeccaple views to the town and Alps. It should be noted that as it’s on top of the hill, you need a lift to access the hotel by foot, but that is very convenient.

A good family hotel with great family rooms and a dedicated games room for the kids. While the path to the Titlis valley station is a bit challenging, it is certainly manageable. Overall, a good hotel. Also, the service is excellent and the food is enjoyable

We stayed here for a week booking through Inghams for a ski holiday from the 17 January 2026. A couple of friends also booked with us. Prior to arriving, I emailed the hotel to see if they could pick us up from the train station. They replied saying that they do not offer this service but suggested that we could book a taxi although they did not suggest a taxi service we could use. In our many years travelling to Switzerland, this is the first time this service was not offered. I then checked on google maps and found a lift from ground level to the hotel. I emailed the hotel about this and was told that this was possible. The Inghams website was hopelessly out of date, indicating that we could get to the hotel from street level using a funicular. The funicular has been out of service since 2016. The entrance to the lift/funicular was a 4 minute walk from the train station which is not too bad but when we got to the entrance, there was a long tunnel to the lift. When we took the lift up, there was another long tunnel followed by a walk through the car park and another lift - all in all taking at least 15 minutes dragging all our bags. On check-in, we were given our keycard for access to our rooms which also contained our lift passes. When our friends asked to buy the lift passes from reception, they were told to ask the following morning. The following morning, they were told that the person who could sell them the lift pass wasn't there so they should get it from the lift pass station. The updated room in the new wing was tiny, there was barely any space to move around and I managed to stub my little toe on the base of the bed which covered the entire floor some 6 inches from the edge of the actual bed. Although they described that the bedroom contains USB points etc etc, there were only 2 USB points. The drain in the toilet smelt of the sewers but as we had unpacked we decided to tolerate this. Our friend's room was a triple and absolutely huge, however, it was in the old wing. The buffet dinner was OK but the main course offering was often not that good. The buffet breakfast was good and that explained why the dining room was full during breakfast and not even half full for the dinner. On my last night, I advised reception that I was leaving the following morning (leaving 2 days earlier) and asked if I could have a packed lunch. She said they did not do pack lunches but could do a pack breakfast. As I had not given them 24 hours notice, they also could not do this. In more than 25 years of ski holidays, this is the first hotel that had not offered a packed breakfast when asked. I complained to the Inghams Rep about this but she could not get anywhere with the hotel and to date I had not heard anything.
