Hocksteinschänke

We were hiking the Malerweg and didn’t find anywhere for a coffee in Rathwalde. For some reason Google Maps didn’t highlight this place, Gasthaus Hochsteinachanke, along a small highway. It’s quite nice. Dining customers appeared to be satisfied. Our coffee was good and the service great. It appears to be a hotel as well.

The four of us had a delicious lunch here. The service was good, we were seated comfortably and everything was very clean and well organized. We were able to pay by credit card. However, the prices were very, very high. The four of us paid 105 euros for good, traditional down-to-earth food and simple drinks. The large Radler, for example, cost over 5 euros. That's an exaggeration, inflation or not. We pay less in the Stuttgart region. If the prices were a little more moderate I would rate with 5 stars. Considering the price level I can unfortunately only give 3 stars. October 2023

The food, albeit pricey, was very good. Make sure you know what you order as the only complaint I heard all night was that it just wasn't what they expected. The ambiance is cozy and warm, while also being rustic yet modern.
