Hôtel Le Commerce

We stayed two nights before and after a long hike and had a great experience on both stays. The bar next to the restaurant is a lovely place to get a drink and a busy little spot in Modane! I also accidentally left an item behind and they graciously sent it to me after my return home. I greatly appreciated their hospitality and kindness.

We stayed in the Hotel Le Commerce on the 26th August and the 6th September 2023 as we were on a hiking holiday in the Vanoise Alps. We left bags with some possessions in them after the first stay to be collected when we returned. When we returned, our bags were not there. The hotel informed us that they were taken by accident by an Italian Railway Company, following a rockfall on a railway line near Modane. That was almost three months ago. We have tried to get our bags back since then. We have asked the hotel to arrange for the bags to be posted to us by the Company that took our bags a number of times and they have not responded to this request at all. At this stage, we no longer believe our bags were taken by accident. Instead they must have been stolen from the hotel. The management of the hotel must be trying to cover this issue up. Why is anyone’s guess. We must warn anyone intending to hike or sky in this area not to stay at this hotel as the hotel management is disreputable and not to be trusted.
