Although the location of the hotel is great and the view is stunning, we were very disappointed from our own experience with the room. We had booked a standard room for 1 night. Th photos from booking.com of the standards rooms are all with a window and view to the old city of Matera, not a room without view or window to walls. When we arrived we were told that we had a free update for a junior suite so we instantly got super excited we thought that the room will have a balcony or smth like this. Instead our room was a cave-like room with no view from the window!! When we expressed our disappointment we were told that we are the last one that arrived that day and that’s the only one that was left. I have to mention again that in booking the photos of the STANDARD room we had booked were all with window with a view. Additionally, I would not mention it if our experience was pleasant but I have to put the photo with the insect that was in the towels before it ended up in the floor. Breakfast 6/10, and the coffee is being charged!! All in all a not so good experience for us.

The location of the hotel is great - in the old part of the city, which of course is connected with the unavoidable inconvenience of the lack of parking and the need to carry the suitcases from a nearby piazza to the reception over a narrow cobblestone street and stairs. So if you are old, or weak, or have some disabilities, it may be very inconvenient. But other than that, I can only recommend this hotel. The breakfast is really very good and very un-typical Italian (lots of different dishes available).

Was with a group week long tour. Lovely hotel and great location, very helpful staff. 1st week of Nov and they don't turn the heat on until mid Nov they say but we were the last group so they close b4 mid Nov ??? The woolen blankets were great but lack of heat made for a chilly stay especially after showering. We were primarily a group of seniors so some heat would have been appreciated. My view was spectacular of the Sassi! So regarded it as a trade off.
