Great location but it's very hard to reach with the road being down. I'd only recommend going here with an off-road vehicle or something old or well-insured. Bring a full spare tire. There are a lot of animals, so expect poop. Please don't visit if you're scared of dogs. The dogs are above the guest in their hierarchy; so adjust your expectations. The food is awesome, really helpful hosts and it delivers on a back-to-basics experience.

In July 2025, I volunteered at Mas de La Fargassa. During cooking, I suffered severe second-degree burns from a hot oil accident. I was visibly injured and in pain, but the owner refused to take me to a doctor or hospital, ignored my repeated requests for help, and then disappeared for the evening and next morning. I was left entirely alone. It was only thanks to other volunteers and guests that I eventually received medical treatment at a hospital in Barcelona—days later. What made this experience truly distressing wasn’t just the lack of emergency care, but the complete absence of concern, safety measures, or basic human empathy. There was no emergency plan, no follow-up, and no effort to check in on me afterward. Even access to Wi-Fi was denied, making it impossible to contact my family or search for medical guidance in that moment. Throughout my time there, it became clear that volunteers were not seen as people, but as free labor to support the owner’s lifestyle. There was no genuine interest in who we were, what we needed, or how we were doing—only a constant focus on the needs of her and her family. The atmosphere was cold, disorganized, and emotionally isolating. Despite its natural beauty, Mas de La Fargassa is not a safe or respectful place to volunteer. Until serious changes are made to how people are treated, I strongly advise others to stay away.

Please check car insurance before visiting: you need to drive a 13km off road rocky dirt track because the public road (D53B) is permanently closed / already since Oct’24. Not all insurances cover off road driving, certainly the case for rentals. We broke our car (rock hit and cut the bottom leading to oil leakage), took a 4x4 towing vehicle to rescue the car,.. and a jeep to get our family back. Not taxi will come there. If we had known this upfront, we wouldn’t have booked. That information isn’t shared openly. It’s. 1,5 hr drive one way to the nearest supermarket…. Come prepared. And if you do come prepared, preferably by 4x4 or at least a SUV,.. it is a very nice natural environment, which the kids loved. Really hope the road will be repaired soon.
