Visited for our first plated roast since their winter switch from carvery. As lovers of their carvery (the best carvery around) we were a little anxious to see how the plated version faired. Especially as I'm not a lover of a plated roast while dining out. However, I'll eat my words. This was top notch. Very ample servings of veg came alongside the plated meat, yorkshire pud and potatoes (mash and roasts). Veg was as much as you wanted, but the serving provided was sufficient as it was, so didnt need to ask for more. Lashings of gravy, a jug was provided alongside a decent amount on the plate too. Can never have too much gravy with a roast so this touch was a winner for me! The meat choices in early Jan were pheasant, turkey or beef. Really good to have the pheasant option and will try that if its on when we go again. Whats more, had room left to have a pudding...which the chocolate naughty cake went down a treat! Will definitely return for the roast, just sorry hadn't been able to sample it sooner! Black Bull is my preference for eating in the village, and is the best for a roast too.

Went for food so can’t review the rooms. Don’t like writing negative reviews but this didn’t reach a good standard and feel like the only way to improve is from a review. We had the loaded nachos to start and these were nothing special. Simply just nachos with cheese and sauce, would expect something like guacamole and jalapeño for loaded nachos. For the main I had the Chicken Parma and this didn’t taste nice. From looking at previous reviews and picture this seemed to be overdone quite a bit (only looked at reviews after, so couldn’t tell staff otherwise). We also ordered the steak and ale pie. The pie was nice but tiny! The plate was bulked out with veg and mash. The gravy was nice as well. The actual building was lovely just filled with some cheap interior. Chairs were like what you would find in an office. Overall the place did feel quite cosy but there are things that could make it better. The food wasn’t the best and feels like dishes should be looked at and consider if they are restaurant quality.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good atmosphere inside and open fires. Dog friendly. When we asked to help my wife with Alzeimers it was no problem. Defiantly worth a try when in the area. Food looked good.
