Camping Bergerie

My plans had changed spontaneously in the mountains, so I ended up hiking to Gavarnie and wanted to sleep at this campsite. Since I had no reception, I wasn’t able to announce my late arrival at 8:30 p.m. When I tried to enter the campsite, I ran into the owner, who very unfriendly and harshly told me that I could not stay there because the site was closed. I pointed to the few tents standing there and said that it didn’t look closed to me. She replied that the reception closed at 7 p.m. and that I could not sleep there. I explained my situation, and she said I could pitch my tent outside the village instead. As a result, I had to walk half an hour out of town and set up camp in a random field in the dark. I keep wondering whether the owner is simply not a good person, or whether she just didn’t like my face (looking Spanish). After reading some reviews, I suspect it was a bit of both. If possible, avoid this place.

Beautiful location and welcoming owners.Signage to the campsite could be more obvious, and we weren’t keen on the 6 minute shower limit. But otherwise this ticked all the boxes. Shame they don’t offer electric hook up!

Great Camping spot with an awesome view to the Cascade. Don't leave your shoes on in the Washing Room!! The Bar is opened to 7pm and you can only buy coins for warm water and the washing machine till then.
