Butt House B&B Swaledale Accommodation on the Coast To Coast, Herriot & Pennine Way

We had a wonderful stay in Butt House when walking on the Pennine Way in May 2025. Jacqui is really a very welcoming host. After a day with heavy rain we enjoyed sitting at the fire Jacqui lit for us immediately. Caring for us she managed to dry our clothes and our shoes. In the evening she served up a delicious homemade dinner Chris prepared very carefully and skilfully. Beer on tap is a great thing on such a night. The packed lunches were gorgeous as well and helped us to reach our next stop in Bowes. Our room was clean and had everything you need for a great stopover.

We loved the whole experience of walking Herriot's Way in 4 days, which was arranged through Chris and Jacqui at Butt House in Keld - we really couldnt have asked for anything more. Chris is an exceptionally good cook, delivering a high standard of freshly prepared, variety of meals. They both clearly work hard around the B&B, but Jacqui then displays an amazing knowledge, patience and willingness to showcase the area that she clearly loves. I sincerely hope that we can return sometime soon - what an amazing area and great homely, friendly, fun place to stay. Mark, Maxine & Barry

What a wonderful stay with Jaqui and Chris at the start and finish of our Herriot Way walk. It is obvious the couple enjoy hosting and what an excellent service they provide from the lovely clean room, comfy bed and bedding, to producing amazing food at breakfast and dinner, being able to have a packed lunch was a bonus as was the licensed bar to be able to enjoy a pre dinner drink and wine with the meal. The communal dining is a lovely idea as the 9 people around the dinner table were able to share their walking experiences on the long distance walks in and around the area. Could not fault anything.
