Amazingly has running water and running toilet. Sometimes there’s a ranger stationed there. They’ll put out the Iceland flag when they’re present. They also round and go to the other camps check on things. You can get dropped and picked up here from the boat service. During low tide, you can cross the river at the beach. It is about knee high and saved about an hour for me going the regular trail. The camp up the coast is viewable from the Hornvik ranger station. Ranger said he monitors people over there from binoculars. Great place to get dropped off and do the hike to the Horn.

Flat, grassy, spacious campsite. Ferry access picks up and drops off hikers within a few yards. Great basecamp for a number of tremendously good hiking day trips. Drinking water wasn't flowing well from spigots when I was there (late 8/2018). So I decided to draw some water from a nearby stream at one point. The water from the stream had a too much iron oxide. My guess is that more clear water is available earlier in the season, normally. One older Icelandic fellow -- who obviously hadn't camped at Hornvik in many years -- said there were coin-operated showers. There is one small building that might have showers. But all entrances into it were locked. Maybe showers are available earlier in the season? Maybe it's a ranger station. I have no idea. There is an emergency shelter, possibly with a phone or transmitter radio. The possible shower/ ranger station building is shown in photo.
