Monastero Sant Andrea

In perfect harmony with the charm of Assisi and the deep sense of peace this city gives you, this hotel exceeded my expectations for a two-star property. The room and bathroom were clean and well furnished and the breakfast offered a wide and satisfying choice. The views are simply breathtaking, overlooking the Basilica of San Francesco and the timeless beauty of Umbria. Above all, what makes this place truly stand out is the incredibly caring and attentive staff, who make you feel genuinely welcomed and at home.

In our Italy trip I rank this hotel as one of the best I've stayed. Close to the Basilica of St Francis, quiet, and room comes with a good view. Don't expect frills like a gym, large buffet breakfast (it's more of continental here) or even a TV in your room. But expect peace, friendly staff, and, for some rooms, a great view of the Basilica. There's also a small chapel which you can use during your stay. If you're coming by taxi the driver may or may not drive you up to the hotel itself due to the narrow upslope (difficult but not impossible). There is also an elevator so no worries about carrying your luggage to your rooms. Some reviews I've seen stated that there is no fridge in the rooms, but mine (at level 3) came with a mini fridge. Don't get thrown off by the no of stars - despite being 2 stars, this hotel is great. I would stay here again next time when I am back in Assisi!

If you are travelling with your self I hope you are lucky to get a single room and get the No 26th 5th floor. You are up for the most wonderful early morning view. The perfect space for a time of reflection and conversation with the cosmos and to follow a very good Sta Chiara’s meditation. I invite you to do it, Let your thoughts come and go like ripples on water. You don’t have to stop them; you only need to rest before the still surface of the mirror. Each time your mind wanders, gently bring it back: “I place my mind before the mirror of eternity.” Feel your awareness settle into clarity. Notice how quiet begins to open beneath thought.
