La Mère Champlain - Restaurant ET Hôtel

Unless you're fluent in French don't bother. Our waitress was quite rude and absolutely uninterested in providing good service and/or helping us with our orders. We struggled with the menu and were told to use Google translate. Food came quickly and quality was good but for the atmosphere and service I would not return! It is also very pricey.

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at La Mère Champlain (RESTAURANT) during our stay in early March, and it quickly became one of our favorite dining experiences in France. We enjoyed a delicious seafood platter, fresh and beautifully presented, perfectly capturing the essence of the coastal region. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was warm, welcoming, and lively — truly a charming and authentic Breton experience. One of the highlights of the evening was the exceptional service. A kind gentleman, whom we believe to be the owner, personally took care of us. He was among the friendliest and most genuine French hosts we have ever met during our travels, and he even graciously offered us a complimentary appetizer, adding a heartfelt touch to our evening. The price was very reasonable given the quality of the food, the attentive service, and the wonderful ambiance. If you are visiting Cancale, La Mère Champlain is absolutely a must-visit spot. We will always treasure the wonderful memories we made here, and we look forward to returning someday. 🌟 Highly recommended!

We just wanted to have a lunch. We were 4. We saw more free tables for 4 persons. We were directed to the entrance which is normal in France. In the entrance a man stood, we said him that we want to eat. He did not even answer, a few minutes later he said in front of us in french that we do not speak french, we are foreigners. Which was not true, 1 of us speaks french very well. So we were waiting. He did not say anything still, we did not know what was happening. After 5-7 minutes we decided to leave, recognizing it the man started speaking to us that he is busy, we should understand it. We just said him goodbye. He was very arrogant and unfriendly. We did not know why.
