Efford Down Campsite - Simple Camping in Bude

Pleasant but very basic campsite in Bude. Convenient location for the town centre and beaches. Handy if you are backpacking the South West Coast Path as a stopover in Bude. The site is on a hillside which whilst offering lovely views of Bude, it is difficult to find a level pitch. The facilities at the site are very basic. The showers are warm and clean but they have no lighting so don't forget your torch after dark. Also the loos are in an old portacabin and when we were there were often out of toilet paper and had no hand soap or drying facilities available (bring your own wash stuff whenever you hear the call of nature!) We were charged £27 per night in August 2025 which is one of the more expensive sites we stayed at (Penhalt Farm down the road is £24 per night but further out of town). Owner is very friendly and they do a good line in jolly west country bumpkin!

Highly recommend this campsite, 5min walk to the beach and town centre. Though basic, the toilets were clean and the showers hot. This campsite definitely has slopes😊, but we had ramps for our campervan so all good for us. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will be back.

Madly overpriced BASIC campsite! Found this site conveniently located on google maps. Phone number listed didn’t work so arrived unannounced at the site, there’s no one around. Further research on line and I find the website fill in a booking form. £27 for two people, ok slightly on the high side for a sloped field with very basic toilet and shower facilities. No campers hut, no benches, nothing at all, but fine we wanted to get started on the coastal walk. What I can’t understand is the £5 charge for a dog, per night! No facilities are provided for dogs, even the bins state “no dog waste” so you are expected to take it home with you? This brings 1 night cost to £32! Yes we could have moved on somewhere else as there’s other camping available nearby and would have but as I said we were keen to get walking or wouldn’t have made it to our planned destination. Anyway certainly will not stay here again.
