I booked this guest house three weeks in advance through Booking.com, paid in full, and received email confirmation. After driving 6–7 hours from Kent, my wife and I arrived only to be told that they had no record of our booking and that we would be refunded instead, with no alternative arranged. We were shocked and extremely stressed, especially after such a long journey. No one contacted us in the three weeks before arrival to inform us of any issue. After a very upsetting experience that nearly ruined our trip, the lady eventually managed to find us a room elsewhere. However, we had to wait another 1–2 hours, wasting time and energy when we were already exhausted from travelling. This situation caused us a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety. We would not want anyone else to go through an experience like this.

This is an absolute and underrated gem. We visited during a personal difficult time, and Stuart and Sandy were wonderful people to talk to and spend time with. Jeeves, Siri, Echo, Alexa (golden retrievers) and Thomas the cat were a joy and I spent an entire healing day playing with them. If you like animals, or if you just don't mind animals, you'll love these 5. I was in tears to leave and not see them again.

We stayed in one of the cottages attached. And what a fantastic location. Outstanding hospitality from Sandy and Stuart. They both made sure that everything was ready and waiting. We were made to feel very welcome and had the extra facility of a large enclosed field for exercising our dog. There were various exercise facilities for trading dogs which we didn't use but our dog loved the freedom of a large open expanse and we were happy that it was secure. There are several cottages as well as the bed and breakfast. The local stone building have been tastefully renovated in keeping with the very distinctive building style. Modern and comfortable. Plenty of hot water a log stove if needed for cold evenings or storage heaters for chilly nights. We had access to washing machines and tumble driers as well as an iron and board. Coniston lake is a short walk in front of the cottages and the town is walking distance along secure bridle foot paths. Everyone was friendly and our family holiday was made special thanks to Sandy and Stuart's letting us share one of their comfortable homes. Highly recommend it for all year round.
