Bay Tree Lodge 35

Arrived to find the site that the lodge is situated in is desserted! Pool, park, fire pits all fenced off and padlocked up. Reception shut with notes to say the site is shut until further notice. Spoke to the lodge owner Charlie to convey our disappointment at not being made aware of this situation. He didn't seem to care and said it was nothing to do with him. Whilst we understand he isn't in control of the site, it seems very poor customer service not to make us aware of the situation especially as he told me he had been at the site only a few days previously!! Our children are gutted!!! He simply replied it would be shut anyway as it's all seasonal! Unfortunately, during my conversation with the Charlie my call was cut off - I assume due to bad signal?? He has not attempted to call me back which again we feel is very poor customer service! Inside, the lodge looks impressive on first look, closer inspection reveals ALOT of cobwebs and many spiders in multiple rooms. Sink in one bathroom is loose, some kitchen cupboards are rather musty smelling which is unpleasant. There is a lack of bowls/side plates/cutlery/glasses considering the lodge accommodates 8 people. Overall, considering the cost and the attitude of the owner I would NOT recommend staying here. And certainly not if you are expecting to be able to use site facilities! Rooms are good sized - shame about cobwebs and spiders. Sink in 1 bathroom loose, towel rail requires a warning- it gets ridiculously hot - good for towels not for children! bed frame broke in another bedroom. Step strip loose - tripping hazard! Large nail found in garden. Hot tub not monitored during the stay. Surrounding area /Location (not including the fact the site is shut!) Beautiful part of Devon.
