Struy Guesthouse

This stay was awful. At first we felt like everything was fine. The room seemed okay, but the downstairs bathroom was dirty and constantly smelled like vomit. The upstairs bathrooms were fine. Then the real trouble came. We all started waking up with bites on our bodies and at first we didn’t think much of it but then we started getting more. When we contacted them about the bites there was some communication back and forth (with photographic evidence of our bites) but they told us it was definitely not bedbugs, and we had no choice but to take their word for it. Save yourself the trouble and stay somewhere else.

Do not stay here!! We booked through Booking.com and had to jump through hoops to even get the code to the key box from the guest house. The room looks nothing at all like it is advertised online. Photos were obviously taken somewhere else. Musty smell, cramped space and noisy. Very unhelpful person when we phoned to get the code for the key. This person wasn’t the owner, just someone who kept repeating unhelpful information.

Our room was very small for three people but clean. Check in details were provided by email once our identification documents were provided (not required in other places). Had trouble with the lock to our room but contacted owner and he responded very promptly and fixed the issue. Funnily we had no trouble with the internet or gaining entry but during our stay of three days we had to provide many guests assistance 🙂 One point to note is that the buses from town do not service this address after 6pm which makes for an early night or a half hour walk home.
