Chalet Sofija

Five stars are not really enough for Chalet Sofija. We love good food and wine, and our three nights at Pop and Aleksandra's home were the highlight of our two-week trip through Slovenia. The food and wine were excellent (better than Michelin restaurants we dined at in Slovenia), but more importantly we felt welcomed and part of their family. I have dietary issues, and they created meals and desserts that I could eat that were outstanding. Every meal was a surprise and each course outdid the prior one. Their wine selection was extensive. Their boutique hotel is a blend of high tech, warm furnishings and delightful artwork. The view from the rooms, outdoor areas and pool must be seen to be believed--you feel you can reach out and touch the Alps. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

It’s been nearly two weeks since our stay, and I still miss this place. The food was top notch as was the service. The amenities and grounds were absolutely wonderful. Last, but not least, Pope and Aleksandra were delightful. You can tell they truly love their home and sharing it with others. This is one of the few “hotels” that I would travel to solely for the hotel itself.

Our recent stay at Chalet Sofija was an absolute highlight, exceeding all expectations. Though we initially knew nothing about Slovenia, our search for exceptional accommodations near Austria led us to this boutique hotel, and we are so grateful it did. We booked well in advance, and upon arrival, we discovered that the reality of Chalet Sofija is even more inviting and luxurious than the beautiful photos on its website. The facilities are top-notch, offering a truly relaxing experience. We enjoyed the sauna facilities, the convenient mini-gym, and especially the heated swimming pool, which was a delight even on rainy days. However, what truly made our stay unforgettable was the inspiring hospitality of the owners. At 74, the hotelier, after 30 years in the restaurant business, has realized his dream of operating a luxurious boutique hotel with a unique one-table restaurant. Their passion for food and their unwavering dedication to pursuing new ventures as they age were incredibly inspiring. They embody the kind of life philosophy we truly admire. Chalet Sofija was our introduction to Slovenia, and without it, we might have discovered this wonderful country much later. For that, we are incredibly thankful for the hotel's existence. We leave with immense respect for their passion and having learned invaluable life lessons from their approach to life. Our three-night stay was truly liberating and comfortable.
