Absolute rip off. The location is great, but the facilities are terrible and having paid a high price for staying here, the additional charge for a luke warm shower left a sour taste in ones mouth. Washing up in luke warm water was also fairly annoying. Worst of all though was the complete lack of control of anyone on site. There were large groups of lads, staying up late drinking and playing music and video games long after families need to put kids to bed. Dogs were left to run wild - in itself, not a problem (we saw no agressive dogs) - but I did witness dogs going to the toilet in the meadow/camping area and owners not making an effort to clean up. Unfortunately we found dog poo near our tent after pitching. I also witnessed lads urinating in the bushes at the site edges rather than taking the short walk to the toilet block. Having paid for a week, we left after two nights, vowing never to return. I have camped all over the World (including sub-saharan Africa), and extensively around the UK. Coniston Hall is easily one of the worst campsites I've stayed on. If you want to get drunk with your mates, surrounded by dog mess and the smell of piss, this place is for you. If you want to take your children somewhere for a pleasant family holiday, dont even consider it.

Reviews are different, as it depends from people personalities and needs, day of the week and season. Campsite positioned perfectly othe Coniston water, so great for watersports or exploring area. Just shy of 20 min walk through fields of sheep and cows by footpath to Coniston centre, where you can find 4 pubs with great range of drinks and delicious food options. Our two night stay was ok, but there are no electricity to any pitches, ground is uneven and pitches not marked, showers cost "50" pence in one coin and you cannot control water pressure or temperature, toilets clean but outdated, washing up taps need to be pressed down and held to get water running. Only one facility block on site, and in pitch black darkness of the evening it is challenge to access. On first night it was quiet after 10 pm, and we could hear only wildlife in the distance, but on second night we ended up with only 3 hour sleep, as so many people were playing music, lighting fires and being very noisy in overall.

I booked the campsite without reading reviews very last minute; Then the week up to the stay. There was an influx of bad reviews. I was very anxious about going on Easter weekend after reading so many bad reviews; We nearly didn’t go. However I was pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect, views on the lake are unmatched and very peaceful. The ‘rude’ staff were perfectly friendly, lady on reception advised to stay nearer the hall for a more relaxed stay, There was minimal noise & it was a busy bank Holiday. By the Monday everyone had pretty much left so you had the place to yourself. The only thing I would say is there is no organisation & it is pretty much a free for all when It comes to pitching up. So as long as you’re prepared for that and minimal services & information. There are warm showers that are 50p and need a full coin, plenty of toilets. I can see the price is difficult to justify but I’d pay again for the location and walking distance into town. Pizza van & coffee van both great. Will definitely be back.
