Il Casello Verrè

This is actually a youth hostel - so it is not as grand or posh as a proper hotel - hence four star. BUT, the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in a double room, but you may get offered a dormitory room. Shared bathroom facilities. Sheets and towels provided. They only provide an evening meal if there are a minimum of four people - which was the case with us. All four of us were walking the Via Francigena (but not as a group). The hostel is right by the railway line and you can hear and feel the trains going by, but these are not running overnight. Simply great value for money too.

A really sweet family runs this joint. They were very hospitable and made me feel right at home despite a small language barrier. Teresa speaks a good bit of English so don’t be discouraged. Very affordable and a good base for price conscious travelers looking to explore gran paradiso. It’s about an hours drive away from the park so you’ll need a car. The place is cheap and cheerful, so don’t expect much in amenities. But the bathrooms were clean and my room was cleaned every day. They provide dinner for a small fee if you want it. 10/10 would stay again next time I want to explore the Italian alps.

Basic and perfectly serviceable hotel. Clean and tidy building. All absolute necessary requisites available. Not a smart hotel, cheap and cheerful, food no choice and you won’t be spoilt, wine very thin. Also entry gained at gate of a long drive where I rung the bell , twice. Having waited to long I was halfway down the street when the gate swung open and had to run back. Helpful youngster attending also speaks reasonable English
