Pension Knafel

The staff was friendly and we could park our bicycles in kind of a garage. But that's all positive I can say. When we arrived the staff was not there but he told us our room number so we can already bring our luggage in and take a shower. One towel was missing and one was totally wet, but luckily we got fresh ones when he arrived half an hour later. At least one of the beds looked as if someone already was laying on it before. But what we have seen too late (just before going to sleep) is that the bed sheets were partly dirty, at least one mattress has been very wet and already growing mold under the bed sheet. Also there was mold above the shower. This is an absolute no-go and therefore we rejected our initial plans to stay a second night because of expected rain. For breakfast you have to go 600m to another location, which is ok when you have a car or the weather is fine (it was almost raining this morning). The breakfast itself was only industrial packed stuff, typical but cold sausages and cold scrambled eggs. The cake seemed self-made but was dry and tasteless. The coffe was ok but the machine not programmed for the cup sizes, so you had to remove the cup early and let the remaining coffee/hot water run away. All in all the price is inaceptably high for this "experience".

I had posted a half decent review on another site but since writing it, have found ourselves covered and I mean covered in bed bugs bites! They didn't start coming up until about 4 days later which confused us but they can show up up to 14 days after being bitten. I then read the newer reviews and one that had stayed after us had the same issue and it was in the same room - room 6. I contacted the owner who admitted there had been bed bugs in our room but said they had been treated but first treatment doesn't always work so had it treated again after the next guests complained. Surely he should have made sure they were completely clear before booking out the room! Have had to rewash all our belongings, hire a machine to clean our beds and thrown away our suitcases. The bugs can take a few months to show in your bed so we are left on tenterhooks in case we took any home with us 😞

Basic pension with good service. The rooms are really noisy and no window coverings so we used a garbage bag. Clean shared toilets and showers. Breakfast is basic with white bread, cornflakes, eggs and if you are early you are lucky to have a sweet yoghurt and whole grain. But it is really cheap so we didn't expect more. Location is beautiful and 15 minutes drive to Bled. So this is great. If you are looking for a basic accomodation close to Bled and for a good price I recommend this place.
