Auberge Hiribarren

A hidden gem on the French–Spanish border – absolutely wonderful! We arrived on a Saturday evening for a one-night stay with our two bunnies 🐇, as a stopover on our way to Portugal. After four long days on the road, it felt amazing to finally land somewhere so clean, calm, and beautiful. 😍 Honestly, this was one of the most charming places we’ve ever stayed. We booked through Airbnb, and everything went smoothly from start to finish, even with a bit of a language barrier. Both Henri (the host) and the man working in the bar/restaurant were incredibly kind and helpful, which made us feel very welcome. I’m vegetarian, and although there wasn’t anything on the main menu I could eat, they happily helped me find an option from the bar menu – padrón peppers and a cheese plate, with some bread on the side. Simple, but perfect! Our room was spotless and fresh, with a small balcony offering the most stunning view. Before leaving the next morning, we took a short walk around the area – it truly looked like something out of a fairytale. Absolutely breathtaking. We would love to come back one day, and I’ll be recommending this place to anyone traveling through the area. It’s the perfect stopover if you’re driving between France and Spain!

We loved staying here. It feels like a 4 star high end boutique hotel. The breakfast was lovely as well, and clearly homemade local ingredients. The staff were very friendly. And it’s dog friendly!

We had a fabulous stay. Truly authentic Basque hotel with all the comforts added. Right in the middle of a glorious Basque village (church, pelote court, walks). Room was lovely. Glass wall for bathroom like Standard in NYC! The food is something else - some of the best we have eaten in South West France. Chapeau to the team. We have already booked to go back.
