We loved our stay at Hostal Azahara. We booked the familyroom. With a nice balcony and spacious bathroom. Our dog was more than welcome and was allowed on the patio, where the breakfast was served. Breakfast is included and has everything you need to start your day. Location is good. Busstation and taxistand are in very short walking distance. Special thanks to our lovely hostess Tatiana, who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. Will stay there again.

Excellent value for money. Very clean guesthouse, good breakfast, comfy bed, handy location, friendly owners/staff. I stayed for a week, didn't hire a car so was walking everywhere or taking the bus, so Hostal Azahara was ideal for me as it was literally right beside the bus stop on the main road through Nerja. (Note that it does have 31 steps up to the hotel from the street, so not suitable for people with poor mobility). Of course it's not a 5 star hotel, but it gets 5 stars from me for value - pay a lot more and stay somewhere else if you want luxury. Worth taking ear plugs in case other guests are noisy, but that was only an issue on a couple of nights for me. Cafes, supermarkets etc are all nearby. There's a central courtyard area where breakfast is served and it's left open to sit in until 2300hrs - smoking is allowed there which is a bit annoying for a non smoker like me (there was a guest who was in there smoking a lot), but as long as it's just 1 person you can sit away from them, and I was out hiking most of the time anyway. The various beaches are about a 10 to 15 minute walk, Nerja Caves are about a 4km walk (pedestrian pavement alongside the main road all the way from the guesthouse, so safe to walk). If I go back to Nerja, I'll stay there again.

May 9th I stayed 7 nights at Hostal Azahara Nerja. I booked this on February 27th via their own website so that I could make the room choice clear because I did not want a room with a window next to the dining area. When I arrived, the room I wanted was already occupied by others and I would have to stay 2 nights in another (smaller) room that was next to the laundry/drying room. In the end, this fortunately only became 1 night, but I found it difficult because I could not unpack my suitcase and could not go to the beach the next day, but first had to wait until the room was cleaned and I had moved my things (although this was fortunately quite quickly). I also found it strange because I had already made a reservation in February and the people who were now staying in that room arrived last minute. Then, as the owner, I would have told those people that they had to stay in another room for the last 2 nights. Now it was the other way around. (Tip for the owner to pay attention to this) I first had room 114 next to the laundry room. The room was not that spacious but fine for 1 person. For 2 people I would have found it a bit cramped. Especially the bed with 1 long pillow that you have to share with 2 people. It is a nice quiet room though. That's why the price was the same as the room I had booked despite it being a bit smaller, I was told. The next day I got room 112. A more spacious room with 2 single beds. The room has a door to a small "French balcony" where you can't sit outside but it's nice that it's also light in the room and you can hang your clothes to dry. The room is clean and because it has a window/balcony door on the side and not on the busy street, this room is also nice and quiet (I don't understand why there is no price difference from the previous room) You can open the balcony door if you slide the foot end of the bed a bit to the side. This is not a problem because the beds are not heavy. The holder for the shower head is broken off but I had already read this in a review. There is a small fridge that I had on during the day for my drinks and yoghurt and off at night because of the noise. But this way it's fine. The breakfast is good. You have plenty of choice. It's also nice that you can use the kettle in the dining room in the evening to make tea for yourself. (I brought my own tea bags) For people who have difficulty climbing stairs, the long staircase at the entrance can be a bit difficult are. I was lucky that when I arrived the owner helped me with my heavy suitcase. Why do I give 5 stars? I felt very comfortable in Hostal Azahara. The atmosphere is good and the staff very friendly. I was even offered soup when I came from the beach cold and soaking wet. The rooms are acceptable for this price. Good enough for me. The Hostal is ideally located, the bus stops are in front of the hotel (both the Alsa buses to/from Malaga and the bus to Frigiliana). This was very important to me with my heavy suitcase. I was really happy with this. The center with restaurants and shops is about 7 minutes walking distance (the 1st restaurant is already 3 minutes walking distance and the large supermarket 5 minutes). And also several beaches are within walking distance (15 minutes) I thought the beach at Balcony of Europe was the most beautiful. (Playa Calahonda) If you book the room via their own website you pay a little less than via Booking.com, you get a bottle of wine as a thank you. I have I didn't get it but I didn't mind because I don't like wine anyway and I also got free soup spontaneously, so that's great. Tip to the owner; you better remove this part from the website because you didn't know this. It says; If you decide to book a room in our budget hostel in Nerja, you will also have the opportunity to make a lesser-known visit to the caves. And so on So this part is incorrect.
