Such a luxurious stop for us. With a private room, it felt more like a hotel than a refuge! Setting: a 20-30 minute walk up from Champex-Lac, the setting is idyllic. A stream runs along one side, and the view up to Fenetre d'Arpette is dramatic to say the least. Reception: Busy at checkin time, but very friendly vibe. We were given a room key since we had a private room, and were left to find it ourselves. The boot and poles room is down a flight of stairs, which is a bit groan-inducing for sore hikers who've walked all day to get there ;) I don't recall there being hut shoes available. We could bring our bags up to our room. Showers: The showers on our floor were exceptional. Unlimited hot water, and soap provided. Hooks to hang clothing inside the shower compartments would be nice. Toilets: very clean and nice. Laundry: we didn't notice any facilities for machine or hand wash, but we didn't ask either. Food: Nothing special, but filling. The tables are very cramped when everyone's seated, so it's hard to get in and out. There was fresh salad, rice, and chili con carne. Lots of reviewers mention no dessert, but they had incredible Swiss ice cream for sale (not well advertised so be sure to ask!). Tons of flavors, and yes it's expensive but the servings were generous. What a treat. Breakfast was very good, with a muesli buffet, yogurt, juice/coffee/tea, and pastries. Rooms: We had a private room that felt like the lap of luxury. A huge bed, in-room sink, shared balcony. WiFi: Free and functional. Outlets: there were several in our room.

The pros were that the dorm room was well proportioned and you had space between the beds (something not guaranteed on the Haute route) which we liked. The staff were also very friendly and there was adequate space to hang boots and clothes to dry. What wasn't so great was the dinner, for the price you pay, it seems like they've found the cheapest meal to serve (beans and rice). The meat version had very little meat in it. It's fine to be budget but then charge more budget prices. It was the same with breakfast, just cereal or bread, no eggs. Not the best for people doing big hikes and absolutely not worth the money they're charging.

Amazing mountain views, tasty dinner and breakfast, and a cozy room to sleep. We only had 2 others in our room and we slept great here. Quiet, with plenty of bathrooms and showers. Very clean.
