Poggio San Lorenzo, Italy

This place captures the real spirit of a pilgrim hostel. Set right on the main town square, where locals gather in the evenings over coffee and conversation, it offers simple, thoughtful hospitality. The walls are marked with graffiti showing distances to La Verna, Rome, and Assisi — a nice reminder of your journey. There are two rooms with four bunk beds each, so it’s not a big place. Best to arrange your stay in advance, especially in high season. Linens are provided, blankets are warm and fluffy, and the kitchen is well-stocked. But honestly — you’ll likely be tempted to head out and share a meal in the lively square. There’s one bathroom, so sharing requires a bit of patience, but the rare bonus here is a washing machine — such a gift for weary pilgrims. Angelo, the keeper, is kind, quick to respond, and brings a calm, gentle energy that makes you feel you’ve truly arrived somewhere you can rest. Only good memories from this place. I’d gladly return
