Biwak-Quirl

I understand the point of the other reviewers: this biwak offers indeed less than some others. However, for the hikers in less need of comfort, it was one of the most wonderful places to stay because it is not full. I have stayed twice here, once during the Forststeig (2020, we were three in total) and once just over the weekend (2020, I was alone). While hiking I was not expecting to find water at the camping sites, I was living the experience of being self-sufficient and that involved getting my water from the stream downhill because I knew the biwak was uphill. I was also using a hammock tent, which of course means I didn't care how flat and wet the forest grounds may have been... I love the biwak being a little bit inaccessible to cars, it is at least 10 min on foot from the street, so it is nice and calm and really in the middle of the forest. Few people coming along, so I did leave my stuff in the tent and went up for the Quirl views without a backpack. It's magic and very recommendable. Keep on the excellent work, Sachsenforst!

Nice bivouac site – more suitable for hammocks than tents – the ground isn't perfectly level for tents, but certainly adequate for one night. Two benches, one with a roof – one composting toilet. In the morning, the ticket inspector came by with fresh water. Very convenient; they also took away our trash. All in all – a good experience. There were fireflies at night – absolutely beautiful!

A bivouac is a bivouac, not a campsite! Thanks to the Saxon State Forest Service for creating these bivouac sites. It certainly isn't easy to find suitable spots. We were satisfied, and by evening there were even three tents pitched. Thank you!
