Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel

We booked Hotel Rote Wand last minute ahead of a family wedding and it turned out to be one of the most memorable stays of our trip. It’s an excellent, cosy, and stylish hotel that balances function, design, and service beautifully. It’s genuinely difficult to fault. We were only staying one night and chose the hotel largely because of its gourmet reputation. On the evening of our stay, dinner was fondue. While the fondue itself was delicious and would likely be very enjoyable as a change from a typical multi-course menu, when you are staying just one night and expecting a gourmet experience, it felt slightly disappointing. We imagined that is the night the chef takes his day off. Breakfast, however, was excellent, and if you can get a table by the window, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful Mountain views too. The spa area is gorgeous and very relaxing, with an outdoor pool that’s stunning in winter. We did find the pool just a touch cooler than ideal for lingering outdoors and wished it were slightly warmer, though we appreciate the challenges of maintaining higher temperatures in deep winter. Complimentary tea in the spa area adds to the calm, retreat-like atmosphere. The location in Zug is peaceful and quiet, be aware there isn’t much immediately around the hotel, but it connects well to the Arlberg ski area via gondola and bus. We took a beautiful walk from the hotel into Lech that we’d highly recommend; the staff were wonderfully helpful in suggesting routes. Touches like welcome cocktails on arrival and a small parting gift make the experience feel thoughtful and personal. The team throughout the hotel were warm and attentive. This is one of those rare hotels that stays with you long after you leave, the kind you find yourself hoping to return to someday :)

We had a fantastic week at the Rote Wand - above all, the service was exceptional. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were very nice, knowledgeable and attentive. The food is amazing and they are always happy to offer more simple options if someone is not up for the gourmet experience every day. The decor and style of the hotel is modern and when you hang out at the bar and lounge there is always a warm and buzzy atmosphere. We will definitely come back when we get the chance.

Scenic quiet location 3 km from Lech. Food is as good as you would find anywhere in the Alps. Every course in the evening an adventure and a cheese selection beyond your dreams. Breakfast every morning was table service and all aspects were spot on. Excellent gym if weather closes in, please put a water fountain in the gym! Only criticism would be that things like bottled water and after dinner coffee really should be included within the costs charged for half board. Access to Ski Arlberg involves 2 min ski down to adjacent gondola.
