Great little pub great for starting or finishing the 3 peaks. Its very cosy and has some good beers on tap. I cant believe its only 15 pound per person per bunk to stay at this hotel also what a bargain. I didnt on this occasion stay in a bunk but at that price you couldn't really complain

The room was clean and warm. It was small but enough for what we needed. Excellent location and the staff were friendly and helpful. The car park is very generous and easily accessible. The breakfast was a little like fawty towers scenario, the toaster was antiquated, either burnt or singed. No bin, when the orange juice or milk jug empty, no refills appeared. The cooked breakfast was sparse. That said l really enjoyed my stay, it was quirky although the main meals were over priced and depending on what staff were on and how busy it was, were just edible.

Upon phoning the Golden Lion to book a room i was told to call back later. I found this rather odd seeing this was 2025. However someone did call me back. She was rather stern and cold at first asking what I wanted? I explained I tried contacting them by their website Contact Form but hadnt heard back. She immediately said "oh we dont use the contact form". Again, this is 2025, why have a contact form if its never used? Anyway i said i wanted a room. Again i was told to call back! This was getting rather annoying. However the afternoon came round and another lady called and said that I can book and that I must pay all up front. I can see why later! Anyway I paid and my room was booked at last! On arriving I was greeted by a nice guy who showed me to my room. The room was very very basic. The linen looked like something my nan had back in the mid 1980s. But it seemed clean enough. The toilet was a little dirty but i think it was cleaning product. The room had a strong smell of disinfectant. Nice! I came down for food. I was told the kitchen closes at 7pm! The menu was OK and i had the Hunters Chicken. It came with chips however the kitchen had turned off the oil machines (odd yes) so I had to have mash. It was all cooked ok. Not a very substantial portion either for £18 but i needed to eat! Later the shower in my room was fine and the bed seemed comfy enough although the pillows were a little flat. The night was disturbed by flushing loos and water pipe noises. In the morning I was heading out early before the pubs breakfast serving time which in my opinion is way too late. It was like 8am or later. So the other option was a continental breakfast. However I can only use this term very loosely as it only consisted of 3 types of cereal and some bread for toast, with small tubs of jam and some sachet coffee. Thats it! No bagels or croissants, pastries, yogurt or fruit or anything! I also spent 10mins of my time trying find the light switches in the eating area as I was never shown. In summery for the price of £95 for a room here I think this charge is clearly well over priced. It doesn't warrant this amount when rooms are 2 star basic and your breakfast is as simple as it was. Prison inmates have more choice than at the Golden Lion. I think the owners seriously need a wake up call as to what a modern B&B looks like in 2025. It makes no difference that its basic, basic is OK, but theres a vast difference between basic terrible and basic nice. The breakfast was an offence to my custom and wallet. I dont think I will return or recommend.
