In September I spent one night at Solane, sleeping in my own car. The highlights of this short visit: 1. Nature everywhere. The “lodge” is surrounded by lush green forest with an abundance of birds, insects and geckos. 2. Remote but practical. The roads leading to Solane are windy and unpaved, with one “safe” and one “adventurous” option to choose from. There is no cellular network—which is great for dopamine detoxing—but the central communal area has very fast Starlink wifi, so ideal for digital nomads or writers. The various houses and camp sites are all in walking distance of the shower/toilet facilities, while also providing plenty of privacy. 3. Accessible waterfall. There is a creek with a waterfall down the valley, a 10-15 minute walk away from the lodge. The water is cold and deep enough to take a refreshing bath. 4. Beauty and quality. The ruined farm buildings around the communal area are carefully being rebuilt and upgraded. Already, the terrace is a perfect place to have cozy meals (including home-made pizza), work with a nature view, and just hang out. The hosts are accessible and welcoming. Everything is open or semi-public, which creates a familial, relaxed atmosphere. 5. There is a very friendly dog.

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of July and absolutely loved it. The owners Jeroen and Josje are very welcoming and kind, really interesting people, and their campsite is very well kept, beautiful and wonderfully calm. They are constantly developing it and have lots of really interesting projects on the go. If you like being off the beaten track, love beauty and silence, and of course good company if you want it, then this is the place for you! We give it 5 bright shiny stars! Irene & Herbert
