Breathtaking views! I stayed at the camping area, which is not crowded at all in mid November, and the raw beauty of the place is amazing. Bathrooms are a bit far from the campground, and it can be tricky to get there at night with no path lights. For activities, there are a few hiking trails around, and I took the one that goes to the lake. It was’t that hard, maybe a 45min walk.

A few kilometers up a scenic gravel road you’ll find Refuge Malniu and it’s adjacent campground. I came here in search of a quiet campsite to enjoy a solo camping trip in nature and I found just what I was looking for! A tranquil paradise surrounded by mountains and hiking trails, with ample room to position my tent away from other campers for a sense of solitude. The cost in September was very reasonable: €4 EUR entry fee, €0.50 EUR tent fee and €5 EUR vehicle fee. If you don’t leave before 9am the next day, you need to pay another €5 vehicle fee. I think it depends on the season, but I was allowed to use my propane stove in the camping area as long as it was not directly placed on the ground. There was filtered mountain spring water available at the toilets which could be boiled and used for drinking water. To top it off, the staff at the refuge were super kind and helpful. I’m sad that wild camping is not allowed in Spain, but thankfully there is a place like Malniu that gives you a feeling close to that of being alone in nature. Important to note that I went on a weekday and I hear that it’s a very different situation on the weekends!

A very beautiful spot. Unfortutately, more than overcrowded on the weekend. About 100 cars/ camper vans in a place that has two showers and three toilets. Above all, there is an extra fee of 5 € just to drive 800 m up to the Refugi. On top, there are camping fees. Absolute no go for us.
