We arrived soaking wet in the rain at 2pm with reservations, but were turned away at the door as checkin is at 3pm. The complete lack of common sense, human decency, and compassion, particularly in a hostel dedicated to aiding pilgrims on their journey, was incredibly disappointing. The staff should be ashamed. We canceled our reservation and went elsewhere.

Pros: directly on via Francigena, bed soft Cons: bathrooms flood and showers don’t drain, bad smell throughout hostel, pillows smelled like sweat, very hot but biggest problem is MOSQUITOES. Even with screens on window I still woke up covered in mosquito bites. Did not sleep at all between heat and mosquitoes

Super location in the centre of San Miato Alto. Very friendly and laid-back staff, accommodating for early arrivals and with an understanding of the specific needs of Via Francigena travellers. Some of the VF hostels can be a bit overbearing with their rules, here they found the perfect balance! I had a bed in the downstairs room which has two bunk beds and opens to a nice outside space. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and didn't squeak. Each bed space has a wall plug to charge your phone and power banks as well as a small light. The bathrooms and toilets were clean and there is an excellent small kitchen with a fridge and cooking utensils. What makes this Ostello so charming is the terrace just in front of the entrance overlooking the valley, a perfect place to chill, and have a meal or breakfast. Mosquito netting on the windows would be a nice touch!
