Camping Herrenwies

Great place, close to hiking/biking trails - host was very welcoming (with a great sense of humour!) Cold showers are free (brrr) but can get hot water when using tokens. Great base to explore the forest or visit the alpine coaster/ski resort of Mehliskopf. Would recommend!

Stunning location, well away from anything and fully connected to many excellent trails. We had a beautiful pitch overlooking a lovely view. The owner seemed friendly and jolly at the start but we both separately felt that she was quite rude on the 2nd day. Perhaps she was just a bit fed up and this didn't really affect anything. WiFi at reception, poor phone signal but this was another way of getting away from it all. CASH only as she states on her emails. Luckily, she let me pay on the 2nd day after cycling to forbach. Bring a long power lead! Get shower tokens on the first day as you are stuffed if reception is closed. Bring your own cycling routes as the app she shares is poor, but once on the trails, things are quite straightforward. We found it to be a beautiful experience, deep in the Black forest.

Basic site at a reasonable price set in farmland. Note they don’t accept card payment! Nice grassy field to camp in with electric but for most of the pitches you need a very long lead. We needed to join our two leads. Another field for tents. Clean toilets and showers but you pay extra for the showers hot water. Quote “cold water is free”. You can order bread rolls for next morning which was nice. Only one water tap near reception and no drain for grey water for a campervan. There is a bus stop outside the campsite. 4G not great at the pitches but there is Wi-Fi at and near reception. A very lovely outlook and connects to the many walking trails.
