Spoleto, Italy

Spoleto is a busy town with a steady stream of tourists, and I met several pilgrims who couldn’t find a place to stay without booking ahead. Strangely, none had heard of this wonderful cloister run by nuns—it's a shame, because the hospitality here is truly special. You enter through a massive wooden door and instantly leave the noise of the town behind. A peaceful fruit and vegetable garden, lovingly tended by the sisters, leads you to the rooms. They're simple, very clean, and chilly in April, but extra blankets are thoughtfully provided—which is fair enough, considering the cost of heating these days. The bathroom is a little dated and the water pressure low, but it does the job, and small soaps and shower gel are provided. Breakfast is modest but served in a beautiful hall, and the overall feeling is calm, purposeful, and quietly moving. Booking was smooth—the sisters respond quickly, and a few speak excellent English. The whole experience felt meaningful, like contributing to something good in the world. If you get the chance, support this place. You’ll be glad you did.

I was welcomed with gentleness and kindness into safe, comfortable and peaceful lodgings. Thank you Sisters for your compassion and hospitality.

A magical place! This monastery was the last stop on the Way of St. Francis in Spoleto. The sisters are very hospitable, and the room had a renovated bathroom and shower, overlooking the garden, and was in an excellent location. The place is quiet and just a stone's throw from the center. I recommend it to anyone who is walking the Way of St. Francis pilgrimage.
