We popped in for Sunday lunch today and it was exactly what we needed – proper homemade food done really well, and at very reasonable prices that won't break the bank. The roast was generous, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. Portions were spot on, and everything tasted fresh. Landlady Fiona was an absolute star: so friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being over the top. She made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The bar staff were courteous, efficient, and kept everything running smoothly – food arrived quickly and service was spot on. Great atmosphere, great value, and proper pub hospitality. We'll definitely be back – highly recommend!

This is our 3rd visit. We have had the same room each visit. The room is big and warm, very clean no dog smell for a dog friendly room. We took a big throw for the bed because they use white bedding. I would have liked a small chest of drawers or small table, not keen on sharing the dressing table with the kettle/tea/coffee. Some noise from the pub but not too bad at all. we love the view over the town square and castle. Bathroom is a shower over the bath. It is clean and warm, could do with an extra shelf and some hooks for the towels and your clothes. Unfortunately the pub has stopped serving breakfast ( we are not keen on the idea of going out in bad weather to find our breakfast),so we will be trying somewhere else next time but if that is not an issue for you then I would recommend The Castle Tavern.

A good stay. Quite large rooms. Clean. Comfortable bed. Warm. Good bathroom. Has everything you need. Wall view. Windows were old and hard to open/close but it is a very old building. It is very noisy until 11-11.30 on Saturday with pub noise, so no good if you want an early night. However, if you are downstairs in the lively, friendly pub, listening to the live music that is making the noise, that won't be a problem. The staff are very keen to ensure that you have everything you need and enjoy your stay. It was good value for money. It is situated on the pretty market place close to the castle. Many pubs, cafes and restaurants within 200m. Parking is possible from 4pm until check out at 10am with a parking disc available from the pub. Longer parking is 8 minutes walk away and relatively cheap.
