It's a real shame because it has the makings of a really cute place - lots of amenities too - but our room was covered in mold and black mold. I felt it was a health hazard. So we ate the non refundable costs from booking.com and are looking for somewhere safer for the next few nights we are here. Hostels aren't meant to be super fancy but I do expect to not breathe in black mold. No bed bugs though but I'd def avoid here if you have respiratory issues. If they cleaned up the place it'd be really cute, as you can tell there was intention in trying to make this place nice.

Not very clear instructions for checking in and even tho free WiFi was included as an amenity no access or way to use it was offered and I had to use my data instead. The room was fairly clean. Overall not bad for the price but probably would not stay again.

We recently stayed at 1 Lochness Hostel as a family group of 4 adults and 1 child, booking a family room with an en-suite bathroom. The room had 2 bunk beds and a single bed, which comfortably accommodated all of us. Having a private bathroom was a big plus for convenience and privacy. The hostel has a car park located at the back, making unloading and parking easy, especially when traveling with luggage and kids. We appreciated the accessibility and safety of the parking area. The communal spaces were impressive — the kitchen, dining room, and lounge areas are all spacious and well-maintained. This made cooking meals and relaxing together a pleasant experience. The kitchen was well-equipped with all the essentials, allowing us to prepare meals without hassle. One unique feature we enjoyed was the small huts located on the backside of the property. While we didn’t stay in them, they looked cozy and could be a fun alternative for future visits or other travelers. Check-in was contactless — the keys were kept in a box outside our room, and the code was shared with us before arrival. We didn’t meet any staff in person, which worked well for our schedule but might feel impersonal to some. Although WiFi was advertised and available, we had trouble connecting throughout our stay, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, we would still recommend 1 Lochness Hostel for families and groups looking for a comfortable, budget-friendly place near Loch Ness.
