Porth Avallen Hotel and Reflections Restaurant

my friend and i were visiting carlyon bay for a few days, and were looking for potential dinner places.. and found ourselves happily situated next to porth avallen hotel, who were offering breakfast and dinners very kindly even to non-hotel guests. we naturally jumped at the opportunity, and we can say that it was one of the best evening experiences we’ve had in (our regrettably short stay at) st austell’s. we were met with the kind and attentive hospitality shown by george, the hotel’s owner, who personally showed us to a very beautiful window table and made us so enthused by their menu. we were just as excited hearing about our meals as we were eating them. his service was a hallmark of our night, and we can’t thank him enough for his kindness. we ordered the chicken goujons and the soup of the day as our starters, replenishing ourselves with some warm nibbles, before engorging ourselves (we scraped the bottom of the barrel) on fish and chips, and a warm twist on their chicken salad (very kindly done on george’s offer) to suit the frosty february airs in which we had arrived. the apple pie and custard dessert, alongside my friend’s sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, were the cherry on top to a beautiful candlelit time. we look forward to coming back on a warmer day, and we hope george is being given his flowers for heading the most gorgeous hotel in carlyon bay. thank you!

We loved our stay! Friendly staff, location beautiful, loved the views and the fact that our family of 5 could all be together. Breakfast was lovely too. Felt very welcome! Would love to stay again !

Gave 2 stars for service as the other staff were lovely but as already mentioned by others the owner is not well suited to working in hospitality. We found him exceptionally rude. The hotel is dated but nice, the views are great. It’s a fair walk to other restaurants etc which if staying here you should consider using.
