West Highland Lodge

After hiking up and down Ben Nevis, we were glad to be welcomed by the lodge's flexible check in policy (at c. 10-11pm). Instructions were easy and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and responsive. The showers and kitchen did the job - it's no Ritz but it's not supposed to be and is well worth its value. A c. 30 minute drive from Ben Nevis tourist centre and 20 minutes from Fort Williams surprisingly buzzing night life. I've never been more happy to see a Whetherspoons.

The lodge is situated in a beautiful spot up the hill, with beautiful views of the mountains from the rooms, kitchen and a lounge. They have a lovely lounge with comfortable sofa for resting and socializing. It was definitely the best part of this place. My main concern was cleanliness. The carpet smelled really bad in the living room and I found lots of hair in my sheets. The bed frames, mattresses, duvets and pillows were very old and could do with some deep cleaning/replacing. Pillows were very flat, it'd definitely be great to have 2 instead if 1 as I'm not used to sleep that low. There was no reception, but only self check-in which was fine with us. Dry room for our gear didn't work. I think the heater was broken, because it was only blowing out cold air. We tried when we arrived and again before going to sleep at night. The heating in the room was very minimal and completely went off at night 😔 Luckily we were alone in the room and I was able to grab a spare duvet from the top bunk. There was no one to ask for the extra linen though. No blankets available either. Overall I feel that the place is overpriced for what it offers. I understand it's a seasonal business and the owners have to make enough in 6 months to live for the rest of the year, but I still feel that the facilities and standard don't justify the high price.

nice hostel along the WHW. Good common spaces, big drying room. Rooms are quite basic and the number of toilets is limited. Perfect if you like something simple.
