Camping Alter Bahnhof Metzdorf

Great space, lovely staff, able to order pizza at night and fresh bread delivery in the morning. All for very affordable prices. A must stop for a hiker !

Nice campground and nice operators. I stayed here while bicycling touring. Things I liked were: the owners/operators are nice & welcoming and, helpful for me as a non-German speaker, spoke nice English; two options for areas in which to pitch a tent (1) near the bathrooms/showers and other amenities or (2) a modest walk from there but in a peaceful area on the riverside (my choice); little convenience store shop at reception (just be sure to get there by closing time, which was 19:00 the day I arrived); good bathroom and shower facilities; you can order the night before fresh bread products for morning delivery to the bread house (excellent to wake up to these); campsite was full but quiet; wifi network reached to far end of campsite where I pitched my tent; reasonable pricing; good and clear email communications when I booked on the website, which made clearvi needed to dash there to arrive before reception closed at 19:00. Things leading to 4 rather than 5 star review: no on-site restaurant or pub (at least not operating when I there) so you need to bring your own food or arrive in time to find some basics from the convenience store; no charging station for electronics in the tent camping area and the outlets I found in the picnic area were not on, so, likewise you need to plan in advance for power needs. These reflect that it seems to be a small, simple family-run operation with limited staffing (but nice people who appear to keep the place operating well) and that much of the camp is occupied by long-termers rather short holiday campers.

Bikepackers and latecomers be carefull. Reception closes early. I came late at 21pm. Next day the owner started to charge me 34euro's cause i was late. (Normally its around 10/15 euros.) After Agressive behaviour of owner and a long discussion, where i said that all he create is negative energy and bad reviews, he charged me 23euro. After maybe 200 campings as i bikepacker, i never experienced such a bad thing :(
