DoubleTree by Hilton Sighisoara - Cavaler

The hotel itself, a DoubleTree by Hilton was really thought of when acquired and bought. But since then, bad management, poor uncaring and rude staff, have turned it into a place where nothing is OK anymore. The staff is... to put it politely, unwelcome (not all, the young ones are caring and nice, but they do not have any room, due to the more mature staff that "run the things"). The room was dirty, carpets were old and uncleaned thoroughly sice quite some time. The roof windows were letting air in, where one of the sofa beds was placed. The smell was heavy, dusty and unclean. The bathroom was huge but was smelling of sewage, everything was leakin... WC, shower, lavatory. Then the shower was really unsuoted for taller adults. I am only 1,80 m and I struggled. Then, the breakfast... was... acceptable, but the service... really bad. Nobody greeted us, then, it was a sweedish table with self service, but no eggs or omlette... so I asked, to understand that there were omlettes prepared,ready made, and put to keep warm, but nobody told us, and if I wouldn't have specifically asked, I wouldn't have known. Regarding parking... it's private and plentyful. Also, they have EV charging on site, proprietary, in the hotel lobby, AC, Type 2 plug with cable. In the parking lot they have also EVgo / Voltrelli chargers, but they are really problematic and often do not work. The hotel would be much better with proper management, maintenance and staff. Since, until this happens, I can not recommend it.

Overnight visit and not disappointed. Hotel balcony view posted of the walled city which is only a few minutes walk away. Hotel has all the amenities you need including an indoor pool and a heated outdoor hot tub. Clean rooms and a decent breakfast.

Pros: The hotel is in a great location, close to the attractions in the old town. Breakfast is acceptable. Cons: The room facilities are rather old, the carpet has stains, and there is only one chair in the room with no other seating furniture. There is no sink stopper — you have to get one from the front desk. The temperature control system doesn’t work. WiFi is extremely slow and unstable at all times. At night, the only front desk staff invited three friends over to chat and play music. The music was loud and played throughout the entire hotel. One of the speakers was right outside my room door. The issue was only resolved after I went down to the front desk several times (they didn’t answer the phone). Overall evaluation: The location is convenient, but the overall management and facilities are clearly not up to a “four-star” standard.
