Warmly decorated rooms & suites with free Wi-Fi in an unfussy hotel within a 19th-century fortress.

This hotel is situated on the top floor of the Bard fortress with its 3 m thick walls, in the southernmost part of the Aosta valley. If you decide to book a room here, remember you have to arrive on site no later than 7 p.m. when the whole staff with the exception of one night guard leves the place. From the garage (free for hotel guests) you have to take 2 elevators and 3 funiculars to reach the hotel, also possible during the night thanks to your electronic key. The hotel has 11 rooms, one of which is a large suite that we had rented for three nights in the middle of August 2025. The six museums situated on the various floors of the fortress have interesting exhibitions, of which I personally like the Alpine museum the best. Hotel guests have a separate breakfast room serving what according to Italian standards is rich but for Scandinavians like us the breakfast offers a rather mediocre choice. There is a restaurant that is only open during day time so you have to take the elevators and funiculars down to Bard to find your dinner restaurant. Count about 30-40 min for the roundtrip. We encountered a few mishaps during our stay, but nothing really serious. Overall a mixed experience.

Loved this place! Unique hotel atop a fortress. The journey to the top is a fun experience with spectacular views.

We (a family of 4) stayed here for one night on the way to the airport after a week of Skiing. Beware, this is not the place to stay if you want to be in your room within 20 minutes of parking your car. We parked on the bottom level of the car park from where there was a lift to the top level, then another lift to the ground level fort entrance, then two funiculars (normally three but the top one was being repaired) then a golf buggy to drive us and our luggage up the last part to the hotel. But..... the experience was huge fun, and what was waiting us was worth the trip up a thousand times. Cindy (or Sindy?) on reception welcomed us like we were old friends, the room (family suite) was incredible with a 4 poster bed and Al Fresco paintings on the wall. There is no restaurant but Cindy booked us a table at a local pizzeria and the walk there was stunning through the old town down below with frequent stops to take pictures of the fort. We woke up to stunning views all around, unfortunately we couldn't linger as we had to get to the airport but I don't think I have ever been so unhappy to check out of a hotel. Wish we could have stayed longer and looked around the Fort. As other people have said, if you can pack light for your stat here it would be useful, even from the top lift there is still a steep walk to the entrance. If you do have heavy luggage though, they will look after you and send a golf buggy to help you up.
