The Border Hotel

Stopped in for our complimentary half-pint of (very ordinary) lager and our certificates, and met up with two fellow Pennine Way trekkers. The proprietor couple were very friendly and accommodating; we much enjoyed chatting with Giacomo. Delicious lunch, including traditional Scottish cullen skink. Giacomo made us an offer we couldn’t refuse, so we opted to stay overnight. They even washed our (very smelly) laundry. Comfy room. Old Speckled Hen real ale! While my fish & chips dinner was somewhat disappointing, my wife much enjoyed her dish. Very tasty full cooked breakfast with many options. It was the perfect end to our trek, and excellent value for money.

What an absolute gem of a hotel. The welcome and service 10/10 we were very well looked after. The meal we had was outstanding. The best steak and ale pie I've had. Portions are huge and very good value for money.

Generally fantastic. The proprietor was very friendly and chatty. We showed up tired from a day of hiking along St Cuthbert’s Way, and were made to feel right at home. After some persuasion, we set up in the darts room and played a few rounds, having a delightful evening. All in all, the experience was fantastic, the host and staff were wonderful, and the beer and food were good! Would wholeheartedly recommend spending an evening here, particularly if you’ve just finished a long day of walking
